Currie's Gratitude 27 May 2014

Often we come home from a sharing session with a feeling that something precious has been taken away from us or that holy ground has been trodden upon.  [Henri J.M. Nouwen]

It’s true. Sometimes when I share myself, my thoughtsandfeelings, I come away different. Sometimes like something precious has been given, and sometimes taken. But it is all really about a willingness to share.

Sharing tales of those we've lost is how we keep from really losing them.  [Mitch Albom, For One More Day]

I suppose this is good, when I look at it from one place. But… for me, I kept sharing tales of some people for too long. And after a point, well, I guess there is a difference BEtween losing a person and Letting Go.

The greatest wisdom is in simplicity. Love, respect, tolerance, sharing, gratitude, forgiveness. It's not complex or elaborate. The real knowledge is free. It's encoded in your DNA. All you need is within you. Great teachers have said that from the beginning. Find your heart, and you will find your way.  [Carlos Barrios, Mayan elder and Ajq'ij of the Eagle Clan]

I really am trying each day to live as simply as possible. Cancer or no cancer, I think it’s really the way to live.

Especially it is for me. Now.

I love you, Currie

Odd. I realized as I read this that I have never felt I have lost anything by sharing. I have gained. I have had some amazing moments at bus stops, in waiting rooms, at parties, in parks...you never know when you might meet a person who needs to know they are not alone. If nothing else I have often gained knowledge of which people are the folks I don't want to waste a lot of time with--LOL! It's a win-win.

I think people only feel vulnerable from sharing when they are fearful of other people's reactions. I rarely care what other people think of me personally...only select loved ones...and THEY don't judge me anyways--ROFL!

If I share and someone thinks I'm crazy or pathetic or strange or whatever...well, they are going to think whatever they think regardless if they are the types to judge people...and they are usually negative. If not me somebody else would be in their sights. They need to put people down to raise themselves up...so I give them something to talk about...give them a hand, you know? LOL! Maybe it will keep their negative focus off of somebody else for a while.

But actually, I discovered when I was a kid that 99% of the time if you are an open book there is nothing the gossips can say to hurt you because everyone already knows all about it. You're no fun to talk about at all because it's like water off a duck's back. They lose interest in you if they can't hurt you. There is tremendous freedom in living outside the box. I am blessed to live in a country where that is okay and I don't have to worry about being arrested or killed for being a little different.

For myself I find that being open and sharing leaves me with a sense of freedom. I have released whatever is bothering me and it no longer has control of me. Sharing positive things allows those around me to enjoy the feeling too.
But then again I know I am different than most and that doesn't bother me in the least.
