Currie's Gratitude 11 September 2013

To understand the heart and mind of a person, look not at what he has already achieved, but at what he aspires to.  [Khalil Gibran]

Understand… a BIG word, or at least I have always thought of it that way. It was one of the first “big” words I learned to spell and write. I know that sounds silly, but it’s true. I love the word, too, for how delicious it always feels to say it.

As for its meanings, well, there’s simply NOT enough room or time to fully unpack it.

I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand. [Confucius]

Why I love this word so much has a LOT to DO with the above. I am someone who has been eagerly learning and exploring the World from the word GO, and I am particularly taken with Learning By DOing. I can read directions. I can watch a gazillion YouTube videos. I can think I get it, but only, and I DO mean ONLY by DOing a thing, and often DOing it badly, DOing it wrong, and DOing it awkwardly, can/DO I LEARN.

One of the most beautiful qualities of true friendship is to understand and to be understood. [Lucius Annaeus Seneca]

Perhaps my most favourite use of the word…

I love you, Currie

Yup! That's the reason I am a dig-dig-digger into the whys! So I can try to understand. :) :)
